Standing , sitting or walking long time can cause the swelling of the ankles due to gravity pressure. Elevating the legs , cutting salt intake should make it to go away.If it persists you need to see a kidney specialist to find out if your kidney has been damaged by the diabetes and leaking protein to the urine. Decreased protein level in the blood can make the ankles swell . For more information please click the links just below:

You can use support stockings to prevent swelling. Another thing you can do to have your doctor to prescribe to you a small dose of diuretic or water pill. If you have any other particular question please let me know i will answer them for you.

Hi,

Another way to bring the swelling down is to exercise your legs. This helps pump fluid from your legs back to your heart.

Hi,

I can not recommend anything like epsom salt soak, witch hazel rub or anything in that nature for the swelling of the ankles. They are not inicated in the medical books for this purpose.
