Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: No, I awoke sleeping on my left side so my right hand was free. My hands and arms have sometimes gone to sleep before but never like this. There was a burning pain in my palm that moved through my fingers and no matter how much I massaged or moved it, it would not go away. 1 week ago I experienced numbness and pain in my toes at an outdoor event but I thought that was because it was very cold. After I warmed them, they got alright.

I was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes 2 years ago and take shots 4 times per day.

Hello,

Well the symptoms you describe are suggestive of Neuropathy. Neuropathy is any disease that affects the nervous system.Commomly Neuropathy is short for peripheral neuropathy, meaning a disease of the peripheral nervous system, or in other words, a disease affecting one or more nerves. When damaged, your nerves can't communicate properly, and that miscommunication causes symptoms such as pain or numbness.

Having diabetes places you at high risk of developing peripheral nerve damage. In fact, at least half of people with diabetes have some form of neuropathy.
