Question

My son is 44 years old, he was diagnosed with type 1

Sent to Health Experts March 02, 2007 5:11 p.m.

My son is 44 years old, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 29. Within the last year, he has been having periodic pain in a particular tooth. His Dentist cannot find anything wrong with the tooth. The Dentist gives his Antibiotics for the pain? He gets relief after taking the medication.
My question is: Can his tooth pain be caused by his Diabetes?
He also has bleeding gums when he brushes his teeth. Is this related to his Diabetes as well?

Hi

The persons suffering from Diabetes , for a long period of time , suffer from Gum disorder.

High blood glucose helps bacteria grow. So they get get red, sore, and swollen gums that bleed

Some even loose teeth due to diabetes.

Also smoking is a major cause of Bleeding teeth and other infections.

Thanks
