My son is 25 years old. He has a knot on the left

My son is 25 years old. He has a knot on the left side of his neck it started out the size of a pea now over the course of several months it is about the size of a quarter raised and swollen. Any ideas I've tried to get him to go to the doctor but I think he's scared.

Does this "knot" hurt when pressed?
Is it movable?
Has he had any fever? Has he been sweating more than usual, specially at night?
Has he lost weight recently?
Has he had any other symptom recently?
Does he have any other medical condition that you think is worth mentioning?
