I am 73 years old. I have diabetes (avandia); choloesterol issues (lipitor), blood pressure issues (quinapril and metroprolol; and have had a recent stent implant (plavix and 3235 aspirin).   I fell in the street 3 hours earlier tonight, landing on my shoulder and rib cage. It was a solid, full body landing and I do not think anything is broken. I have no sharp pains, but my side is very sore and swelling. I plan to go to my HIP VIP medical center tomorrow to have it xrayed, but just want to know that it is alright for me to wait until then. That I am not taking any undue chances by not waking my wife to take me to the emergency room for an xray at this hour.. I am in New York City. Gerald L. Wagner, 9170887-3279

Hi

Are you able to move shoulder up and down?

What is severity of pain on a scale of 10?

Have you noticed redness and bruising in shoulder?

Thanks

I can move my shoulder up and down. The impact was more on my right side along the rib cage. My shoulder is not bothering me, and there is no redness or bruising on my side that I can see. The pain is about a 4 or 5 when I move or take a deep breath. But, there is no sharp pain associated with it as there might be if there was an actual fracture of a rib. The full rib cage below the shoulder blade and slightly off dead right center (a little more to the back)took the fullest part of the blow when I landed on the pavement.

So I should not stand under a hot shower? I have already put ice on it for a half hour 3 hours ago.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Putting ice is beneficial , Take analgesic and keep shoulder elevated. There is no need for hot shower. Take rest , and get a clinical checkup tomorrow.Your doctor will add anti-inflammatory medications.

Thanks

Take care
