My mom is 73 year old, she is 95 pounds heavy, 4'10" in height. She is currently taking Diovan 80mg once a day in the a.m. after breakfast. However, her BP continues to be abnormally high in the range of 135-145 systolic BP and 75-82 diastolic BP. Normally, her BP is 110-120 over 70-75. She is also taking Lipitor 10mg once a day and also Norisec before breakfast for diabetes pill. She does not have any other pertinent history at this time. How is it that her blood pressure remains higher than normal?

Hi,
Thanks for contacting Just Answer medical experts with your question,
Given her age and weight, her Blood Pressure is at present not worrisome in terms of possible chances of any complications.
More aggressive control of Blood Pressure may lead to undesirable side-effects like dizziness, intermittent low BP etc.
Her slighlty higher BP could be the result of some age related kidney changes, her extra weight etc.
The good news is that with these kind of pressures she should live a long and healthy life,
All the best,
