This is usually a sign of an injury or disorder of the digestive tract, it can originate anywhere in the digestive tract from the mouth to the anis. Black stools indicate bleeding in the upper GI tract, bright or red blood usually indicated bleeding in the lower GI tract. It is best to have a fecal stool occult test done but to make a deficate diagnosis they usually suggest x-rays or and endoscopy.
