My husband has a bowel problem.
Sent to Health Experts November 07 11:56 PM

My husband has a bowel problem. He only goes like like 2 times a week, they are really big that almost make him pass out when he goes. When he doesn't go he gets really bad back problems. He also has hemmroids. What do you suggest he take to help clean his digestive track, or other suggestions?

Hello

The best cure is drinking lots of water, and eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies. Increasing water and fiber is the most natural way. You may also want to get a stool softener that is sold over the counter. Not a laxative, but a stool softener. Metamucil products will also help.

A good mix that I have used in the nursing home is, 4-6 ounces of prune juice with one ounce of milk of magnesia. Put a pat of butter in this and heat it in the microwave until the butter is melted. Then drink.

I wouldn't use this a lot, but just to get over the immediate problem.

Reply to Kerry's Post: you know how you said to use your mix to fix the immediate problem, well it has been goig on for about five years, so you think it will still work for him

Yes, I do. Milk of Magnesia is a laxative that can be bought over the counter.

After that, the rest of my advice still holds true.
