Chance of pregnancy??
Sent to Health Experts August 15 10:39 AM

My boyfriend and I used the withdrawal method on August 6th.. Which according to mymonthlycycles.com was my most fertile time. I then had a colposcopy and biopsy done on the 10th. Is there still a possiblity I may be pregnant?

The test you had done has nothing to do with your Uterus so that would not interfere with being pregnant. (the only thing that would concern me is the medication) but from what I remember would not be a lot.. since you are not put fully out for a long period) But still something I would mention to your OB doctor if you are pregnant.

If you had unprotected sex on what is your fertile period you may be pregnant. I would have a blood test taken at the doctors office since it is much more reliable than a urine test. If you do choose to do a urine test first do keep in mind that your first morning urine is strongest for the HCG and just because it says Neg- doesn't mean that you may not be pregnant either.

Reply to Lindie's Post: Hi there. Thank you for your response.
I wasn't under any medication for the colposcopy and biopsy. I didn't even have to take tylenol.
I was just worried that if I may be pregnant the actual biopsy would effect it somehow. I would have to wait until I actually miss my period to take a pregnancy test though, correct? Do you know what the chances of getting pregnant while ovulating are using the withdrawal method is? I am supposed to get my period on Saturday and the suspense is killing me.

Well I'm sure that you know, it only takes one sperm in order to hook up with your egg. Men have pre ejacualation.. so the chances are very, very high.

I Know there is this pregnancy test called First Repsponse. It states it can detect pregancy at least up to 3-5 days prior to a first missed period. How true that is, I don't know. But they are a big name. So maybe they have a good product. But we play a part in that too if our HCG level is hight. I saw it at Walmart you may want to read the package and check that out..

Awesome no medications on the test.. I think you should be just fine as far as that is concerned.

I know the worst of any pregancy is the waiting period. But if it were meant to be.. there is no changing that course of being or not being pregnant.

Good luck.... let me know thru PM what you do find out..
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Actually, your chances are not very high, but it is definitely a possibility since you may also have been ovulating. An average of 21 women in 100 get pregnant each year if they use only the withdrawal method. That equates to about 2 out of 100 women each month. If you add in the factor that you may have been ovulating as well, the odds are probably more like 1:30 that you will end up pregnant since you only mentioned having sexual intercourse once.

If the sexual intercourse had been within the last 72 hours you would have had the option of taking the "Morning After Pill" to decrease your chances of getting pregnant, but that is no longer an option.

You will want to take a pregnancy test that is more sensitive to the HCG in your body. You can click on this link to see a very large list of tests. Keep in mind that the lower number will indicate that it's more sensitive. You really want to find a test that will measure about 25mIU since you will be testing pretty early. Unfortunately, these tests only work after the fertilized egg has been implanted into the uterus (that's when your body will start to make the higher levels of HCG) and if you think Aug. 6 would have been when conception occured... Well, I just think that you may need to give it a few more days, but you can always test now to see. I've had them give positive results much earlier then expected, but the line was always very faint.

Reply to Shauna Johnson's Post: Thank you for your reply. I am going to just sit back and wait a few more days. I was starting to get even more nervous because I've been feeling a bit nauseous the last few days. It just comes and goes. I feel like I want to vomit (sorry..it's kind of gross) and then it goes away.
I've never really felt this way before. I should get my period on Saturday. I'm very regular... So, maybe I can wait.
