constipation + sleeplessness
Sent to Health Experts August 22 09:56 AM

The past two weeks I have been constipated and unable to sleep more than 4 hours a night. I am wondering if these could be related. I have been trying to eat fruits and whole grain breads more often. I tried taking milk of magnesia yesterday, but with no success. As far as my sleeping, I can fall asleep fine, but wake up after about 4 hours and can't fall back asleep. I am a 24 year old female graduate student in biochemistry, so I work 12+ hours a day and usually on my feet at least half of time (been doing for years, so I doubt this is stress-related). Though I do not get extra excercise, I usually feel exhausted by the day's end and cherish my sleeping hours. Other than the birth control, Yasmin, I take no medications.

Hi

For the sleeping, you might occasionally try some benadryl pm. It isn't habit forming physically, but it's not something you want to grow to rely on either.

Here's an interesting article you might enjoy
