Generalized oedema

My mother is 89 years old and has a generalized oedema. Her doctor is passing it off as the result artritic gout. Last week she gained 9 pounds which appears to be fluid retention. She has a long medical Hx with heart and stroke and HBP. Have you ever heard of arthritic gout causing abdominal bloating? He has increased her Lasix to 40 mg and her Procardia to 60 mg as her BP has gone up to 156/84. She is also on Coumadin for Hx of DVT.
