Question

what is scar tissue in the lungs? What causes it?

Sent to Health Experts September 14, 2005 12:41 p.m.

I had x-rays done and my doctor told me I have scar tissue in my lungs. I'll like to know what this is. When I looked it up in the internet it shows that scar tissue is caused by pulmonary fibrosis. Is that true? Can there be any other more bening cause? Please let me know.

It is true that scar tissue can be caused by pulmonary fibrosis but scar tissue can come from many things. You can have bronchitus or pneumonia and end up with scar tissue on your lungs. Here is a good site for you to research information on:

http://www.medlineplus.com/encyclopedia

Search under scar tissue then click on show all health topics and it will give you a list of all the illnesses that can allow scar tissue to build-up besides pulmonary fibrosis.

I hope this information will help you, if so please click the accept button and if you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

I tried clicking on scar tissue, however, scar tissue is not shown in that link, there are two entries for scar but none is for scar tissue.
