I have been recently feeling numbness in my arms and hands. I thought I was just sleeping on them because it happens a lot at night, but now it is in the daytime as well

what do they do in this test? Yes, I'm a baby when it comes to needles. I am assuming that they would need to find out where the blocked nerve is, and by doing this they would inject something in order to see what's going on, right?

Here is a link that explains this as well.

NCV is not that bad at all. Sometimes though what is called EMG is done as well. These are little needles placed in the muscle.

On a personal note, I had one of these done as well. And I too am really a HUGE baby when it comes to needles. I much prefer to give than to receive when it comes to needles. But I have had this done, and it honestly sounds worse than it is.

Another option as well, is to see a chiropractor as well. Make sure they take X rays, it may just be pinched in the disc or neck area as well. Which has no needles involved. But to find the source the doctor would be best...

Hope this helps and gives ideas as well.
