why do my hands or fingers shake sometimes uncontrollable?

In the past 18 months I have noticed that my hands shake a little bit. Then about 3 weeks ago they sometimes started shaking uncontrollable when i was carrying something like a bowl or plate?.,,,It seems like it is getting worse?....is this something serious?
