My good friend has somewhat oval shapped spots on his back that have scally skin on them Over time the scales get lose and you can rub them off as in a shower. Then they come back again. He has them all over his back He is 82 years young.

This could be a fungus known as ring worm. This is the same fungus that causes athletes foot and jock itch. Therefore, over the counter remedies for either would clear up his back if this is the case. If this doesn't help, (you should start seeing results in a week), he may need to see a dermatologist.

Reply to Kerry's Post: i believed that ringworm was circular. His spots are about 1/2 in freckles but not freckles. The rough skin is tan in color and easily rubs off in the tub or shower. Should he see a doctor just to be sure/safe. At our age i always worry.
