i have been on low dose birth control pill for over years
Sent to Health Experts January 09 04:19 PM

I have been on low dose birth control pill for over 3 years now. I never miss a dose and take it at the same time everyday. I am due for my period in 5 days, today I noticed a brown discharge when I used the restroom. Is this normal... or Is this something to worry about or is it just old blood. Thanks for your help !

From your description this is what's considered old blood, which can occur prior to the start of menstruation. At this point I wouldn't worry about it or anything.

Hope this helps

Relist: I still need help.
It is now 2 days before my expected period and the discharge in no longer browish but now a pinky color. I take my birth contol correctly as directed and never miss any pills. Is this just my period on its way?

It sure sounds like it Hun... there are several things that can throw off a period by a few days.. stress, if you had been since recently (cold, flu etc) weight gain/loss, hormone etc.. If this is the 1st time for this to happen, I wouldn't worry about it. But if this does continue next month as well like this, I would see your doctor to rule out any infections and to check your hormone levels as well. The BCP's you are on, may not be working anymore. But at this point I wouldn't worry about it.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for your help, I have had this spotting one or two times before, after I was switched to a low dose birth control pill. my doctor told me to take and prescribed me extra estrogen (premarin) to take the week before my period, to relive the spotting but I havent tried it yet so I may consider it.
