Over the last 18 months, I have had four episodes of a series of symptions. It begins with the left side of my throat sore, followed by mouth sores and cracking lips. This is followed by itching and blisters beginning on my right finger tips and spreading to left hand by next day and lastly, the same happens to the bottom of my feet. I have looked up hand foot and mouth disease but by all indications it is a childhood problem and there is no mention of reoccurances. Can any one tell me what this might be and how to ease the discomfort? Also, what could trigger these outbreaks and can I control them? Optional Information: Female , Age: 46 went to clinic for strep test 18 months ago and told I possibly had hand foot and mouth disease but not that it would come back

Hello

While most cases of HFMD are in children under ten, it does occur in adults. To have recurrent outbreaks is possible, but usually an immunity develops after having it once. Usually when there are more than one outbreak, it's a different strain of the virus.

I suggest you ask the doctor to test you for herpes simplex 1 as well. Or, possibly a fungal infection.
