Question

painful bumps and frequent urination

Sent to Health Experts July 12, 2004 12:00 p.m.

I recently began having unprotected sex with a male I’ve been dating. We discussed this and he says he is clean and neither of us are having sex with anyone else. The sex was a little painfull due to the fact that I have not had sex in a while and we were having it frequently. The sex was also pretty vigerous.rough. As of a few days ago, I noticed a few bumps ( each the size of a zit) on my lower vagina and have had the urge to urinate often. The bumps did not hurt at all but now they do. The urine tends to hit them, causing them to be sore. I think they would heal if I did not have urine constantly hitting them. My urine is a light color and is a discomfort when I first stop. I do have some discharge. Also, the past two nights I have had chills and a mild fever (100) What could this be?

Hi There,

You really should see a doctor as soon as possible, especially if you are having chills and a mild fever. Perhaps the bumps could be the start of a venereal disease such as herpes virus (see the following website):

http://www.valtrex.com/about-herpes/genital-herpes.htm

I will tell you this: When I was in my 20's, I had similar symptoms, and it turned out that I had Shingles! The lesions or bumps were painful, and I also had discomfort urinating and a slight fever.

Shingles is a similar virus, in fact you can get it from someone who has Chicken Pox. Please see the following website: http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2001/301_pox.html

You would be best to go to the doctor's or the local emergency room, if they get much worse, or if you do not feel better by tomorrow. A mild fever does not always signify a mild disease. In adults, any mild fever can sometimes be something to really pay attention to.

You also, may have lesions from the rough sex, and it may be raw in those areas, and you may have gotten some kind of infection, either viral, or bacterial, that is causing your symptoms.

God bless, and take care!
