I went to my gyno to get an IUD but I tested positive for chlamydia. Obviously I can't get one now and I was really disappointed. My doctor told me that even if it is cleared up for months I will not be a candidate until I after I have a child. That seems pretty conservative to me and everything I've read only prohibits if you have an STD or have had in the last three months, or are at high risk. Is it really out of the question for me?

You might want to try Planned Parenthood or another doctor. Planned parenthood will see you for little or no cost based on your income. This might be helpful to you.

Apparantly this particular doctor isn't willing.

I wish you the best of luck!

Reply to Kerry's Post: Your answer implies that getting an IUD after having chlamydia (ever) isn't out of the question. Is that true and my doctor is just being really conservative? Might another doctor be fine with it?

I guess my concern is I don't want to switch doctors only to hear the same thing. Planned Parenthood is a great idea though.

I don't think you have to switch doctors. I just think yours is being extra cautious. If you should contract another infection with an IUD in, you could end up sterile. So, I think that your doctor wants to avoid that.

If you are pretty sure you won't get another infection, I think planned parenthood is a good thing for you in this case.
