Children that have veins closer to the mucous membrane of their nose can cause frequent nose bleeds. Sometimes this is due to injury, picking or rubbing the nose. Make sure his nails are short in case he does this. Since he gets them frequent it is something that is advisable to have his doctor check into. Some children need to have cauterizing done to the front of the nose. (this is a simple procedure) You son may also have a problem with his blood clotting, but this can be confirmed via blood test. Other causes can be allergies, dry mucous membranes. So do have him see his doctor for further evaluation.
