Susuan, I went to the ER Sunday and the doctor diagnosed my pain as "pluritsy" I am not sure if I spelled it right or not, and I brought up my gall bladder but no test were ran on it; only chest x-rays were done. I have also follwed up with my family physician and he just wrote me a perscription. I am on the birth control pill Seasonale and gall bladder disease is one of the side affects of it. So should I try a different hospital or ask for a different doctor?

Hi Priscilla,

Thank you for your confidence and asking me to help with your question. I want to do my best to offer you the right answer. OK. Here is what we can be reasonably certain of: A chest X-ray confirmed your definitely have pleurisy.

An ultrasound scan of your uper abdomen is what is routinely done when looking for gallstones, so this was not done when you went to the ER. In order to rule out your gallbladder being a possible culprit of problems, an ultrasound needs to be done. If you are having symptoms of an acute gallbladder attack, typically some of the signs and symptoms are upper abdominal pain which is sometimes rather diffuse and then typically becomes more localized to the upper right side of the abdomen. When/if snacks or a meal high in fat content is consumed, this makes the galbladder which contains stones "miserably unhappy" and can cause considerable abdominal discomfort in the right upper region. It can also cause pain and discomfort which radiates to your back and can localize in the area of your shoulder blades. An acute gallbladder attack will also cause nausea, vomiting and in many patients with acutely symptomatic gallbladders, the degree of their pain can cause them to feel like they are having chest discomfort and they often become "guarded" in their breathing because of pain and feel like it is hard ot breathe. In an acute gallbladder attack, labs are typically ordered and a health professional would look for an increase in an enzyme, amalase (sp?) lab signs of infection or of inflammation (possible white blood cell count elevation, possible sedimentation rate elevation respectively.) So, in the ER no labs were done..., right?

Questions for you are: You stated your family Doc wrote a prescription for you. 1)What is the name of the prescription and when did you begin taking the prescription? 2) How long have you been on Seasonale?

If you will please answer these 2 questions, I promise to respond right away with further input, OK? I am not familiar with Seasonale adn will be checking to learn a bitmore about this within the next few minutes and perhaps talking to my pharmacist friend here for input whom I can contact in a second.

Will respond as soon as I hear back form you. thanks again for asking for me. Sorry you are not feeling so hot =( Susan

Propoxy/ACET 100mg/650mg 1 day(been taking it)
IBprofren 800mg 3 times a day(been taking it)
I have been taking Seasonale for 3 months. I guess labs were done. I was given pain meds through an IV, so I was pretty out of it.

Let me explain that better. I have been taking the pain meds and IBprofren for one day. The propoxy is in 6 hour intervals. The pain has also now moved to mainly the right side where my shoulder blade is.
