Generally numbness indicates entrapped or pinched nerve. This does sound like it's the median nerve via the carpal tunnel. You need to see your doctor for further evaluation. Generally a NCV and/or EMG test can indicate where this is occurring for proper treatment. If left untreated could cause further damage.
