Hi. I have been on Yasmin for over two years. I heard that when you want to Skip over your period you can just take the three weeks worth of hormone pills, and then skip the placebo pills, and directly start a new pack instead. I decided to do this for three months in a row. Which basically means I went 9 weeks straight taking the hormones pills, and not having my period. I finished my last pack a week ago and let myself have a period this time. I have been feeling VERY depressed and have had lots of anxiety and mood swings for the past week (since I stopped taking the pill to have my period). Is it possible that I could be going through some kind of hormonal withdraw from taking birth control for 9 straight weeks, and then stopping for a week? I'm a little scared!!

Going for three months straight will have a consequence of altering the hormone balance to a small extent. This will manifest itself as a major PMT so mood swings, depression perhaps even some crying too. In addition, you may find that you bleed for longer and heavier than normal.

All of this is to be expected, and I would not be concerned. Just go back on to your next pack as normal. You could consider a B6 supplement for a few months to help with these sensations of anxiety and mood swings. This will help balance it out.

Normally, if you need to go without a period then only skip one period at a time, unless your doctor has given you the go ahead.

I hope this helps
