I got blood work results back-rbc-3.78, hemoglobin 11.6 hematocrit 34.0 and my doctor says to have ir rechecked in a month-no other action-I am a 52 year old menopausal female with no previous history of anemia. Should I be doing anything else?

Your test results are showing values just a touch lower than normal range, really just a touch. That's why your doctor is waiting to re-test you. Sometimes lab results need repeating to be sure of the necessity of furhter investigation.

A lot of times physicians will wait to see if a symptom either improves...or gets worse in order for an illness to manifest. Otherwise you could be sent for every test under the sun for every possible cause of those readings.

So no need to be anxious, read up at the site I have listed below. It is quite comprehensive and may allay any fears you may have.

Read all of the aspects presented and note the list, in the "Treatments" section which lists types of anemias and their treatments. Here is a summary of that list for you:

Iron deficiency anemia, vitamin deficiency anemias, anemias of chronic diseases, aplastic anemia, anemias associated with bone marrow diseases, hemolytic anemias, sickle cell anemia.

Hopefully your condition, as most, will be easily treatable if you do indeed exhibit more low values. I hope this has proven meaningful to you and wish you the best of health! Images available only to Customers.
