I have not had intercourse in 10 years. The last few months, I have been experiencing severe itching around the vulva region to the point of scratching myself raw. At first I thought it might be a yeast infection, but Monistat did not work. I've tried Vagisil, Cortaid, Neosporone with no relief. Vagisil actually makes it itch more! I've switched to an allergen-free detergent with no fabric softener or bleach, but still no relief. I'm embarrassed to go to my OB-GYN...what could this be and how can I get relief?

For now I would use some Hydrocortisone (1%) cream. But you may need to see your doctor for a full blood work, especially checking your hormone levels. Your estrogen may be low at this point. But without a full blood work up it's just a guess. If you have a GYN that may be your best bet, especially if they want to do an exam as well.

Could a low level of estrogen also explain my extreme vaginal dryness. I am so dry, that after urination, tiny pieces of toilet paper remain on me. I then have to clean with a washcloth or a feminine wipe. Once a tried using a vaginal lubricating cream and it burned so much I couldn't get it cleaned off me fast enough! So you think its just a low hormone level?

After saying about the dryness, sounds exactly like a low estrogen level. So at this point, stop all the creams you have been using, Only apply a thin layer of Hydrocortisone (1%) cream. I would also only use a moist towelette to wipe with vs toilet paper so no friction can occur, which could be irritating you. So do make an appt with your doctor to find out your exact level so you can go from there for treatment.

Best of luck Hun, hope this helps.
