What could a high white blood cell count mean?

Sent to Health Experts September 01 01:54 PM

My Father has been having serious problems lately and we are very worried about him. It started out with itchy skin but he showed no signs of allergies or rashes. It moved on to him having fevers and hot sweats at night. Then to dizzyness and him being disorianted along with becoming very sleepy all the time. He has been to dermotologist and regular doctors and was put on nerve pills and had a terrible side effect to them. He finally had a doctor to give him a blood test and received a call today telling him that the results are back and he has an extremley high white blood cell count. Which I know means that his body is trying to fight off some sort of infection. My question is how serious can this be? I know my father and for the past two months he has not been himself. We can't get a Dr. to tell us anything and I was just hoping that someone could give me a little insite to what this my mean. My father is a wonderful man and is in the military and has been for 30 years. He will retire a few months from now and I want him to be healthy and strong enough to enjoy this time that he has worked for. Thank you for any help in advance.
