Question

Super High Glucose levels- immediate dangers

Sent to Health Experts April 14, 2006 10:21 p.m.

I have suspected for sometime that my husband has diabetes. Reviewing old blood work sheet , kreotine levels, frequent urination and other factors. Well I finally got a glucose meter the other day and took his glucose this evening at around 6:45pm, he had not eaten since 2:00pm. His glucose level was 385. I took it again 2 hours after dinner, it was 495. How much danger is he in right now until we can get an appt with a reliable diabetic specialist? He is 47 years old. His blood work from 6 years ago indicated diabetes but his primary doctor never mentioned it. however we live in a very rural community and there are only 2 doctors in this area, so I am not real sure I want him going to either one of them for this.

Hello

At the very least I think you need to call his doctor tonight and report your findings. Those levels are extremely high. While he may have been living with these high levels for some time, they merit a call to the doctor or a trip to the ER.
