Pain behind the knee and the calf, Md says not aknee problem but a back problem, had steroid epidural that relieved the pain about 2 weeks now as bad as before,MD says get another epidural. I think I want a more difinitive diagnosis based on tests as an MRI or other type of test. I want to know what this is and my options before I have another procedure. Do you think I am out of line asking for this?

You're never out of line when it comes to getting more information concerning your health. If your doctor is reticent to do these things to ease your mind, find another doctor! Remember--THEY work for YOU! That said, the steroid epidurals do take a few times. They are usually done, in my area anyway, in sets of three, two weeks apart. Are you seeing a pain management doctor/anesthesiologist for them? If not, that is the direction I would head for a second opinion. Until recently, doctors haven't known too much about general pain as a disorder. More and more research is being done in this area, but you still may have to fight to be heard.
