My son is 22 years old, the doctor thinks he has the flu. He had a physical and the doctor did not find anything wrong. But his major symptom is extreme exhaustion which is going on for a week. he had low grade fever and headache, but that is gone now. He doesn't have flu like symptoms...no cough or sore throat, no aches or pains which are symptoms of flu. He is scared it's something else because he never felt this exhausted for so long. Can it still be the flu? thank you for your response.

Was blood work done too? This could indicate thyroid, sugar, hormone imbalance, vitamin/nutrition deficiency as well.

If he did have blood work done and all the levels came back normal, I would find out if any of these levels were in the high/low range of normal. If so, then I would have him follow up with an endocrinologist. Which even if certain blood work comes back normal, but near high/low normal can still indicate a problem. Which is where the endocrinologist comes in at, they are much more knowledgeable when it comes to these.

Reply to Lindie's Post: He had blood work done on fri. didn't get results yet. my question really is, can this still just be the flu or virus since he doesn't have that many symptoms other than exhaustion and the initial symptoms of low fever and headache. no other symptoms which is worrying him. if blood work was done friday and there was something very wrong, do you think they would have called this weekend? we're just very worried since he's been feeling this fatigue for a week now.
