My 28 week old fetus has a 4mm x 4mm x 4mm cyst on his left kidney, what could this be?

The fetus is a male and the cyst has grown in the past week. It was detected through ultra-sound and I'm 38 yrs. old. My triple screen was abnormal as well but I understand that could be related to my age. I also has a 31/2 year old son that has no problems of this nature. I haven't tried anything. I had a ultrasound this morning and i'm being referred to a perinnoyoligist.

A single renal cyst is a benign condition, which resolves itself, usually without intervention or complications.

The Doctor (Perinatologist) will perform tests to rule out the presence of multiple cysts, renal abnormalities or obstruction related to the known cyst.

It is useless to say don't worry, I know, but I hope you can focus, for now on the possibility of a benign simple cyst.

I will be happy to answer any further questions you have now, or questions that arise, regarding tests, etc. Good luck to you.

I hope my information is helpful. If you have more questions, just ask! I will gladly help, otherwise please click "accept".
Positive feedback and any bonus would be appreciated. Thank you, Christy
