Dear Lady,

Ask your doctor to refer you to a certified pedorthist (a C.Ped.). They are the folks who adapt, design, build, or modify foot wear.

If you have trouble locating one, let me know. I'm an MD who is on the board of their national organization and can find one for you.

Dear Lady,

There is no way that I or any reasonable physician will try to make a diagnosis and treat you without seeing you. Our primary rule is "First do no harm."

I suspect you may have gout. But that is only one of many problems you might have, some of them quite serious.

Is there anyone you can call who can take you to a physician?

Reply to Teaching Doc's Post: I know what some of the other things might be, heart trouble, heart failure etc. I have a strong heart. Could it have anything to do with using my feet to push myself around in the wheel chair? Should I get a scooter?

Even without knowing more about you, if you can afford one, the scooter is a great idea.

The problem is probably related to using your feet as you do, but I can't say if it is the cause or just making it worse.

I'm still worried about your feet.

I'd feel a lot better if I knew you would see a physician. You are on Medicare, aren't you?
