Hi, I just have a question for you. I am a 24 year old female, healthy weight and moderately active. I have frequent tightness/pressure in my chest (above and between my breasts and below my collarbone) my heart also races sometimes for no apparent reason. I also think I may have asthma (i lose my breath during some activities like walking up stairs)

In the past doctors heard a murmur in my heart, but sometimes they don't hear it. I have some stomach/ulcer like problems as well. Also, one of my main concerns is the fact that I abused amphetamines (cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamine) for about a year. I landed myself in the hospital with a near OD and since then have been clean for six months. I have no interest in ever going back to that lifestyle, but I'm somewhat worried that I may have hurt myself.

Is this something I should be concerned with? I would think that the longer I have been without drugs, the 'healthier' my body would be. I do not have health insurance but I am considering trying to get a policy just to go see a cardiologist.

Thank you for your time and help.

Hi Nicole

Congratulations on 6 months clean! That in itself is something to be so proud of!

Now don't panic, but I do think it is a good idea that you get some insurance and go see at least a regular doctor for some simple testing. It will give you Peace of Mind if nothing is wrong, and get you early treatment just in case there is.

If at any time this seems to be getting worse, or doesn't go away after a minute or two, you will need to get to an ER before you have insurance. Not to worry though, they will have to treat you and will come up with a payment plan that is good for you.

Your life isn't worth waiting for insurance, and it isn't worth not getting a doctor bill. Those can both be fixed. You have made great strides in helping yourself live a long and full life. Please don't let something like no insurance wreck that for you. You are worth getting the help you need.
