How successful is the Version procedure in a breech baby situation? Also, how dangerous is the procedure to the baby? Is it a painful procedure?

Thank you.

janmele,

This has an average success rate of 58%. About 4% of fetuses return to a breech position after a successful version. Repeat version attempts are less likely to be successful than the first attempt. The risks to both mother and fetus are very low. These risks include twisting or squeezing of the umbilical cord, onset of labor, and rupture of the uterus or damage to the umbilical cord. Before the procedure you are given an injection that will relax the uterus and prevent contractions. You may feel some discomfort if the uterus contracts. This depends on how sensitive your body is, and how hard the doctor presses on your abdomen. You can read more about it here
