IBS CONSTIPATION TROUBLE

Sent to Health Experts June 30 04:06 AM

I AM SUFFERING FROM IBS EPISODE OF CONSTIPATION HAD SPASMS, & SOME GAS BUBBLES.. I WAS PRESCRIBED LACTOLASE AS TREATMENT. i HAVE NEVER TRIED LACTOLASE THAT I REMEBER BUT HAVE TRIED MANY OTHER THINGS AS I HAVE HAD A 7 YEAR HISTORY OF IBS/CONSTIPATION PROBLEMS..I HAVE TAKEN LASTOLASE FOR FOUR DAYS NOW. I CAN TELL I AM IMPACTED AND HAVE A RASH ON MY SKIN WHERE MY DESCENDING COLON IS ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE. DESPITE THE DISCOMFORT, THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PASS GAS AND HAVE A BOWEL MOVEMENT HOWEVER, I HAVE NEVER COMPLETLY BEEN RELEIVED AND THINGS DON'T SEEM TO BE MOVING EASILY...i WAS TOLD FROM AN X-RAY OF MY COLON THAT I AM CONSTIPATED. AND ALSO HAVE PAINS ALONG MY COLON AND MY BACK AND CAN TELL FROM PREVIOUS EPISODES THAT IT JUST ISN'T PASSING. IN THE PAST I HAVE TAKEN DUCOLAX WHICH SEEMS TO BE MORE IMMEDIATE. MY FIRST QUESTION IS THAT WITH A RASH APPEARING DO I NEED TO SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION? CAN I SWITCH TO DUCOLAX TOMORROW MORNING? AFTER HAVING TOOK LACTOLASE IAM RELUCTANT TO GO TO A HOSPITAL UNTIL THE MORNING BECAUSE IAM AT LEAST AN HOUR AWAY FROM ANY MEDICAL SERVICES AND ON VACATION AT A CABIN IN IDAHO.AND WOULD HAVE TO WAKE PEOPLE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT??? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.-AMY

Youe Doctor is probably looking for alternatives to stimulant laxatives, to provide long term relief/prevention. These may not provide a feeling of total relief or evacuation, but may be effective long term.

That being said, do not take any more of the Lactulose, or change medications, until reporting the rash and consulting with the Doctor. You should contact the Doctor, through his on call service tonight, or asap this morning. Proceed to Emergency if you have difficulty breathing, tightness in your throat, or swelling in your face, lips or mouth.

Your Doctor may approve a switch back to Dulcolax for temp relief in the morning, but it would be best to wait for his direction.
