REPLIED Check Mark

Hello,

I would keep a close eye on him today and tomorrow.

Did he complain of abdominal pain at all? What type of testing, if any did the doctor at the hospital perform?

It is important to figure out precisely where in the GI tract the blood is originating. The most common place is from the rectum. Childrem commonly get small rectal tears from passing stool (especially if the stool tends to be hard). Usually this causes a small amount of blood to streak the outer edges of the stool and usually goes away in about 24 hours but may return. If the blood is originating from further within the GI tract, the blood tends to be mixed in with the stool and darker in color.

What color was the blood in your son's stool?

Has he been constipated?

There has been no constipation. The blood was bright red. The doctor did a hemacult which was positive for blood.cbc which showed no sigificant changes and stool cultures which wont be back for 3 days.     thank you

He may have colitis which is an irritation of the colon. He could have picked up an infection which can be treated by antibiotics.

Keep an eye on all his BM's, monitor him for abdominal pain and fever.

Did you go on vacation? Camping? Was he swimming in a lake and perhaps swallowed a lot of water. Is there anything different that he may have eaten?
