Unilateral facial numbness can be a symptom of multiple sclerosis or pressure on the facial nerve by a tumor: http://info.med.yale.edu/caim/cnerves/cn7/cn7_1.html

Cortisone may reduce inflammation and restore sensation in your face. Niacin (one of the B complex vitamins) sometimes assists with reducing numbness. Elavil is a tranquilizer and antidepressant that may be effective in reducing numbness. Other antidepressants, such as Pamelor or Tofranil, may be helpful.

An abnormally low vermian volume is occasionally associated with chronic alcoholism or schizophrenia.

MRI with gadolinium (contrast) is sensitive for detecting tumors.

Analysis of spinal fluid can detect some cases of multiple sclerosis.

If your only symptom is a feeling of "tightness" in your facial skin then you might have "limited scleroderma".

Limited scleroderma affects only the skin in certain areas e.g. the face.

Anticentromere antibodies are found in the blood of 90 % of people with limited systemic sclerosis. However, lab test results alone cannot confirm the diagnosis because not all people with scleroderma have these antibodies and because not all people with the antibodies have scleroderma; therefore, a physician might order a skin biopsy to help confirm a diagnosis.

If your neurologist cannot find a cause for your problem then I recommend you be examined by a rheumatologist who is familiar with treating autoimmune disorders, specifically scleroderma.
