My wife went to the doctor for what she said was a routine yearly medical exam.
Here's a list of what she chose to test.
1)CBC
2)PAP SMEAR
3)TSH
4)Comprehensive metabolic
5)Flat Warts, Molluscum
She's had recurrent BV and has said that there's really nothing you can do about it     since it will just come back anyway after treatment

TheTruth8,

As far as the BV is concerned, this can recur after anitbiotic treatment, as the antibiotics kill the problem bacteria, but sometimes do not reverse the underlying cause. To help prevent BV eat at least 8 oz (226.8 g) of yogurt with live L. acidophilus cultures as part of your long-term daily diet. Lactobacillus acidophilus is the active culture found in some yogurts- it is also available in liquid, powder, and tablet form. Lactobacilli in gelatin capsules (which dissolve), tablet form, or yogurt form (with a vaginal medication applicator) can also be inserted into the vagina.

TheTruth8,

All these tests are general screening tests that would be done on an annual basis. It gives an idea of a person's general overall health. A CBC is a complete blood count, which measures the concentration of white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets in the blood. A PAP is a way to check cells from the cervix and the vagina. This test can find precancerous changes or cancer of the cervix or vagina. The TSH test is test to determine how the thyroid is functioning. The comprehensive metabolic test is used as a broad screening tool to evaluate organ function and check for conditions such as diabetes, liver disease, and kidney disease. The fecal blood screen tests for blood in the stool, which can indicate if there is any bleeding along the gastrointestinal tract. Molluscum is a type of viral skin infection which I am guessing maybe your wife either had symptoms of in the past, or your doctor suspects that she may have it.

Reply to Annie's Post: Does BV reoccur on it's own or is there something that triggers it?
When BV is is present is the vaginal odor continous or does it occur only after having sex? Are any of the tests listed in the previous question looking for a specific STD?

A PAP can detect cancer and possibly HPV, but other than that they are just general tests.
The cause of BV at this point is not completely understood, but there are some risk factors that can lead to a drop in the good bacteria in the vagina and increase the bad bacteria. These factors include sexual activity, history of sexually transmitted disease, douching, and tampon, diaphragm, and IUD use. As far as the odor is concerned when someone has any type of vaginal infection present, until it is treated and gone, there will be a foul odor.
