Paxil~COPD~Weight Gain
Sent to Health Experts July 22 08:00 PM

Is there a safe alternative to Paxil? I've been taking it for many years clinical depression and am just now learning that it is adding to the fact that I cannot control my weight which is a real sore spot with me as well as a health issue. It has been very frustrating because I know that I eat a healthy diet, and am not a big eater, but the pounds just do not come off. I also have COPD and if I have a problem Prednisone is prescribed which also adds to the problem. Can you supply me with some information relating to this? I also have a thyroid problem which from what I've been reading may also be linked to the use of Paxil. Thank you.

You can discuss with your doctor changing PAXIL to other kind of antidepressants such as SERZONE, WELLBUTRIN, EFFEXOR which will not cause you weight gain.

Reply to V. Yetimyan   M.D.'s Post: I don't understand. If these are safer medications why they would not have been prescribed rather than the Paxil. Weight gain was never mentioned as a side effect of this medication, but even watching my food intake closely has not been effective. Are most doctors aware of the consequence of taking this medication? I feel as though I'm in a Catch-22 situation.

The replies that I received were not all that helpful. I already knew that I could discuss the question with my doctor. I didn't come away with anymore than I already knew. Please refund my deposit. Thank you.
