have started getting a horrible cramp in my right calf.

have started getting a horrible cramp in my right calf. This happens whilr asleep and wakws me up in excructatuing pain. It last anywhere from a minute til about 5 minutes, goes away finally. Sometimes comes back and sometimes doesn't. Is this a sign of something serious?
