MY son has spent the day working in and outdoors. We are in the high ninety degree weather here. Three hours latter, he now feels sick to his stomach and dizzy when he gets up. He feels clamy to the touch, but has no temperature. Is this heat exhaustion? What should I do? He's fourteen, 6'1", and weights 192 pounds, so he isn't a small child anymore.

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 55

Already Tried:
I gave him tums for the sick feeling, took his temp., (97.5), and moved him to a cooler room in the house. He is sleeping now, but I am still concerned.

Reply to Pam's Post: Yes, he was fine. He worked with his Dad today doing some construction work from 6:30 to around 7 in the evening. So it wasn't a "play date " kind of day.

He really has the classical signs of someone who has been out in the heat too much. Being sick to your stomach is a very common sign. You might want to give him some ibuprofen and alternate that with tylenol if you have some. That will probably make him feel better. I would recommend he stay inside tomorrow where it is cool. The heat is terrible this time of year. He may only be able to work outside a couple of hours at a time with plenty of cold fluids where he is working. If you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Reply to Pam's Post: Thank you Pam. I will try the Tylenol and keep him home tomorrow. So this heat exhaustion can creep up on you hours after you have been in the sun too long?! Everyone is feeling it here. It was 103 yesterday!

Yes you were a big help. I just didn't want to wake up a doctor or spend a million dollars at the emergency room if it was something simple. Thanks again!
