I am 57 years old, and thought I was pretty much through ...

Sent to Health Experts August 11, 2006 7:05 p.m.

I am 57 years old, and thought I was pretty much through menopause. Last August, I had major spinal surgery, with a long recovery period.

About 4 months ago, I started having periods again. All the classic symptoms of earlier years were back, bloating, tender breasts, emotional, cramping.

I have had about four periods now, pretty regular. Nothing heavy, but still there.

I feel so much better when my period finally starts.

I have an appointment to see my doctor the end of the month.

Is this normal? My sister, who is 59, also gets a period from time to time.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Hello

Yes, this can happen. A lot of it has to do with genetics. Some women do this, and some don't. I'm glad you are seeing your doctor about this. Some blood tests to check your hormones will give you and your doctor a better picture of what is going on.
