I get small mouth sores that are on the inside of the cheek, lip, side of tongue or on the soft palate beneath the tongue. They will surface for about 48 hours, but only one at a time for a week or so. There can be months between bouts.

Reply to Deborah's Post: Yes. Sometimes they hurt, other times they don't. My wife has genital herpes, and I am worried that this could be what is ailing me.

Have you had the sores appear on your lip at all?

Herpes simplex 1 is generally what causes the oral lesions, and the lip lesions, where herpes 2 -- HSV-2 is generally the one that causes genital lesions. However, there is a significant overlap between the two, so you can have herpes 2 that infects and causes lesions in your mouth and you can have herpes 1 that causes lesions on sexual organs.
