Herpes?
Sent to Health Experts August 14 02:45 AM

In December of 2005 after seeing a commercial on Herpes medicine I noticed a small circular area on the head/glans of my penis that seemed a little red. Being an extremely paranoid person I went to the doctor to find out if I had herpes. The doctor looked at my penis and said “its probably herpes”. She prescribed me with a Pill and an ointment Acyclovir and Zovirax. (I think was the name). This situation began to become a 24/7 psychological issue and I started to get myself sick. I went back to the doctor for a blood test. I received a phone call that the test was positive and that I need to come back in 2 weeks or so to receive another test. When at the office for my second test the doctor looked at my test results from the 1st test and told me that the test was negative. The nurse who called had given me the wrong information. The 2nd test as well turned out the be negative. The next 3-4 months mentally were better. For the past 2 months or so I have noticed similar redness on the tip near the hole for peeing, and similar redness on the head of the penis. I also notice around the base of the head of the penis some tiny tiny red dots. The base ring of the penis head is not bumpy but it is not perfectly circular and smooth. None of the red spots/sections are raised; none of them come to white heads or turn out white/ashy. They also do not look like open sores. Its mostly sections of skin discoloration. Am I looking to far into this again? Everything seems suspicious since the whole herpes situation with the doctor.   Is redness on the tip of the penis normal? What would be sure signs that it was herpes?

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

Sounds like that whole doctors office is one big cluster of incompetence. Go to another doctor to be retested for Herpes. You can also be checked for other STD's just for peace of mind.

The redness you described does not sound suspicious. It is not raised, open, or bumpy so it could possibly be just an irritation. Sometimes the acidity in your urine can cause some redness and irritation to the head of the penis. Certain detergents on your underwear or body soap can cause a similar reaction. Even friction from rubbing against your clothing could cause it.

I don't blame you for being freaked out after what you went through at that doctor's office. As I mentioned, it doesn't sound like anything serious, but I would get re-checked by a different doctor just for your own peace of mind.

Reply to AnnlynnRN's Post: I dont know if this changes anything or can be related but on my wrist and on the inside of my elbow (where u get blood taken) I sometimes get a rash. Could this be related? I have sensitive skin in general, I figure the head of the penis is sensitive as well. Is the blood test a good test for herpes? I feel a pinch sometimes could that be because I think about it 24/7?
