I am experiencing pain in my lower back...left side. It started as a dull pain last week and   has increased in intensity since. Yesterday was bad, today is unbearable. It is throbbing with bouts of shooting pain. Could this be a kidney stone? Or maybe my kidneys? Or maybe I pulled a muscle...I mean tore a muscle.

Ok...this is for my boyfriend who won't go to the ER or to see a Doctor. I have him soaking in my hot tub right now and then I am going to rub him down w/some sports creme and then put a heating pad on him. He won't take any pain killers or advil or aspirin.

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy)-

This may in fact be a sign of a kidney stone, or of a kidney infection. If the pain is unbearable, he NEEDS to go to the ER right away - they will give him something for the pain, and begin treating the problem (he may need antibiotics and/or to be observed for a period of time).

If he absolutely refuses to go, call his regular doctor and ask his/her opinion.

Bottom Line: Explain to him that the sooner he gets checked out, the sooner he will feel better.

Sincerely,
Emily
