Sent to Health Experts August 15, 2006 12:56 p.m.

I have pain and swollen lymph glands under both my arms and towards the back of my breasts for about 3 months. Now there is pain in the upper back.

I went to see my gynecologist since I have fibro cystic breasts anyway (even though I stopped menstrating almost 2 years ago).

I'm going on vacation on Sunday for 2 weeks, staying home for 2 weeks and then leaving again for a month. Dr. wants me to have a bilateral mammogram even though I just had one in January (breast cancer on father's mother side). Would it do any harm putting off the mammogram for a few months?

Hello

What is the size and number of swollen lymph glands?

Any nodule palpable in breast on self examination?

Don't know the size or number. Large painful nodules inside the breasts (upper and middle) and on the outside of breasts and very painful under armpits.

Hello

The chances of these nodules being benign are up to 85-90%, but your doctor wants to rule out chances of malignancy which accounts for around 10-15 % of cases. So i would suggest you to go through this mammogram so as to completely rule out any malignancy and time will be saved in case of any positive findings which is a key factor in prognosis.
