Sent to Health Experts August 22, 2006 9:04 a.m.

on Sunday, August 13th, I hurt my ankle. proped it up and iced it. that night it was swollen to were I couldn't walk on it. Went to ER, they x-rayed it, they said it wasn't broken or fractured. They said it was a sprained. They wrapped it and put me on cruches. Told me to keep it up with ice. By Wednesday, August 16th saw my doctor. Still couldn't put weight on it still swollen. She told me to keep it up and put ice and heat on it. Here it is August 22nd and every time I try to put weight on it my foot and toes along with the ankle swells up and there is still some discomfort with my ankle. REPLIED Check Mark

Hello,

Were you prescribed anything to decrease the pain and inflammation? Usually sprains respond very well to an anti-inflammatory like Motrin 500mg thrice daily after food for 5 days.

If you are not already taking Motrin, please do so. It takes about 2-3 weeks for a sprain to improve. If the swelling and discomfort does not go down in another week, please see your doctor for a repeat Xray.

I hope this helps.

Yes, the ER doctor prescribed Tyenol #3 2 tablets every 6 hours. My Docotor prescribed Naproxen SOD 550mg every 12 hours along with Motin every 4 hours.

Hello,

If you are already taking anti-inflammatories, yu should recover soon. A sprain takes 2-3 weeks to recover fully. Till then please continue with the ice pack and elevating your leg. You are under good treatment.

I hope this helps.
