My girlfriends period is 6 weeks late. she was taking birth control in the beginning of the year, but she stoped in may. We always used condoms when having sex. She has had some signs of pregnacy like sore breats, weight gain. She has taken 4 pregancy test which all have come back negative. she has had a history of yeast infections. My question is can se be pregant? and if not pregnat what can cause a late period for 6 weeks?

First of all, I would confirm the Neg- reading with her doctor via a blood test as this is much more accurate than any home test. Do keep in mind though, there are several other causes for an irregular in menstruation as well. Examples; stress, weight gain/loss, medication, illness, cyst, or polyp of the cervix, hormonal imbalance, thyroid, infection.. just to name a few.

It is possible with her history of yeast infections, that is can throw off her cycle, but still confirm the Neg- readings with a blood test.

Hope this helps, If you need anything else please feel free to ask. If you found this helpful don’t forget to click the *ACCEPT* button and leave *POSITIVE* feedback.

Reply to Lindie's Post: She has gained weight. but she doesnt have any major stress factors. her cycle has always been on schedule, even when she was on the pill. she went to the doctor in june of her last period and they said she didnt have any infections. as for the history of yeast infections even when she had them her period came as scheduled. 6 WEEKS IS A LONG TIME TO MISS A PERIOD!

6 weeks is a long time. But keep in mind, home tests are not 100% reliable. And some woman do not have a high enough hCG reading for a home test to detect the hCG. That is why it's always best to confirm with a blood test. Is her weight gain due to food? Or is she still eating the same amount but gaining? If so, this could also indicate thyroid, which a blood test can confirm this. Thats good in June she didn't have any infections, however if she was just starting with an infection or got one after being seen that could be the cause too. But the only way to pin point what is going on, is to be seen in person. Or she can wait for a couple more weeks and see if she does start, and for whatever reason she may not have ovulated last month, therefore won't get her period, and she may still stay on track and start within the next week and half.

Hope this helps Hun.

Reply to Lindie's Post: She didnt have any infections from april till now she says. in 9 days she will be at 60 days without her period. she has had and abnormal pap smeer, which she is going to a doctor to do a colonposcopy, can that stop her from having her period. Besides that her period was late once before last year, which made her get on the pills aside from that she has never been late

I don't know what the pap found, however this could be due to HPV, which could delay her period. If she is normally on a 28 day cycle then she is 2 months late. However pregnancy still needs to be ruled out and she needs to follow up with the colposcopy. But without testing and an in person evaluation it is anyones guess here. I wish I could pin point the exact cause Hun, but I can only help you to narrow it down.

Hope this helps.
