I have swollen ankles...pain in the bottom of my feet and my calves are swollen too. I am sore behind my legs up to my thighs. I have been taking some laxatives at night and I assume that could cause me to hold back water, but the rash, the pain? That doesn't make sense.

I take synthroid for low thyroid. dosage is 1.25

I am 62 years old

I have a bad case of restless leg syndrome

I am a mess.........thank you for your attention towards this matter

nothing. Because I am a raw foodiest, I felt that maybe my restless leg was so bad cause of lack of vitamin b missing and animal protein. So I started 5 days ago eating like most people. I do not get more than 2.5 hours sleep since my legs wake me up from rls or just aching.

Hello,

Swelling of the legs and ankles are associated wtih diseases of the heart, kidneys and liver.

But swelling and pain below the knee is frequently associated with DVT or Deep Venous Thrombosis. This is especially true of older women with a sedentary lifestyle.

A test for a substance called D-dimers in the blood will confirm or rule out DVT.

I think beginning to take animal proteins was a good decision in your part as iron deficiency can cause resteless leg syndrome. But on the otherhand if the swelling of the legs is due to a problem witht the kidneys you will need to restrict protein intake.

Please consult your doctor for a thorough check up and blood tests to identify the cause of the swelling as early as possible as DVT can be dangerous.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. I live a very active, physical job. I hike dogs approximately 5 miles 5 days a week. DVT doesn't seem to be me. I am wondering if the laxatives could or have caused improper kidney function and the sweeling of the ankles? But there is a rash at my ankles..don't know what that is about. I do know that swelling is a sign of heart or kidney, liver problem. Can my inactive thyroid cause this problem by any chance?

Let me know your opinion.
