Weird pregnancy?

Sent to Health Experts August 29 05:56 PM

i have questions about pregnancy. how long does it take for the fertile egg to implant inside of the uterus? can a fertile egg live outside the uterus for a couple of weeks or a month and then implant inside the uterus?? and once implanted inside the uterus is that when you start counting the weeks of pregnancy or is it once the egg is fertilized? please help, i'm confused...... i got pregnant with my daugther mid dec. they say between the 13-17(around there sometime) i found out i was pregnant in feb. my last period was nov. 1st(it was the first week in nov.) of course the nurse got out her chart and calculated that i conceived around mid november time frame. which would of been acurate b/c me and my husband had sex around the second or third week in nov. they told me i was 12 weeks in feb. but when they they checked me it showed that something was wrong with my baby. the doctor said she could be born with down sydrome or something. or they could of gotten their weeks mixed up. so they done an ultrasound and it showed that the baby was to small to be around 12 weeks. it showed that i was only 8 weeks along! my period was supposed to come on around the first week in dec. but it didn't, that's why they thought i got pregnant in nov. they finally said i conceived mid dec. without having my period that month. is that possible? i was supposed to get my period dec. 1st, 2nd, but i didn't and i got pregnant mid dec. please help me understand. could it possibly be that i was pregnant in november(that's why i didn't get a period for dec.) but the egg didn't implant into my uterus at a much later date?
thank you,

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: Yes, I'm sure. My last peroid was in the first week of Nov. We had unprotected sex in the second or third week in Nov. and we also had unprotected sex in the middle of Dec. but I didn't have my period the first week of Dec. like I was suppose to. That's why when we first found out I was pregnant the nurse said I concieved in Nov. But when they did the actuall check up it showed the baby was to small for me to be 12 weeks. The ultrasound showed the baby was only 8 weeks along which push my concieved date back in middle Dec. and my due date got pushed back from Aug.8th to Sep.4th. So I was wondering how long does it take for the fertile egg to implant into the uterus and could it possiby be that I was pregnant in Nov.(thats why I didn't have a period in Dec)and my egg just didn't implant util mid Dec. Please let me know ASAP!

Hello

It takes about seven days from fertilisation to implantation. For the three days following fertilisation, the egg will move toward the uterus, growing all the time.

A pregnancy is usually referred to in weeks, starting from the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP). However, as ovulation generally occurs about 2 weeks into the menstrual cycle, the developing foetus is thus 2 weeks younger than the number of weeks a woman is referred to as being pregnant. This means a woman who is 6 weeks pregnant is carrying a 4 week old foetus.

In the first trimester Crown rump lenght is used to estimate gestation age and the maximum error by this way is 5 days. Also some researches state 45% pregnant women were not certain about their LMP as a result of poor recall,irregular cycle,Bleeding in early pregnancy,OCP use within two months of conception.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: What I want to know is how long can a fertilze egg survive before being implated into the womb? Could it be possible that I was pregnant in Nov. but the egg didn't implant untill mid Dec. Can a fertilize egg survive for weeks or a month before going into the uterus? Thank you.

Hello

Full term is 40 weeks - that's 40 weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period

Just calculating your EDD from above formula since (1st week of november)= 40 weeks =10 lunar months which accounts for 1st week of september.

Let see how

November = 1 month

dec=2

jan=3

feb=4

mar=5

april=6

may=7

june=8

july=9

august=10

After 10 lunar months EDD comes out to be in 1st week of september

This matches with Ultrasound date of EDD.Once the egg is fertilised it starts growing and it donot depend on when it implants or not.So your theory whether it implanted afterone month is not logical because soon after fertilisation cell division starts.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: That's still not answering my question. I'm asking about fetile implantation and how long does a fertile egg survies before being implated into the uters????? Yes! I know about the weeks. I'm asking You is it possible that I got pregnant in Nov. and the egg didn't implant itself untill mid Dec. Is that possible? Or it's just happen that I didn't get my period in Dec. but still ovulated and got pregnant that month(Dec.) Please answer those for me. Thank you.

No its not possible that you got pregnant in nov and egg implanted in december.

Once the egg is fertilised it starts growing and it doesn't depend on when it implants or not its age has started.So your theory whether it implanted after one month is not logical because soon after fertilisation cell division starts in fertilised ovum.
