Hello,

Swelling is seen in ankles due to fluid accumulating in the body.It can be due to many reasons. These could be as simple as accumulation of fliud in the legs due to proplonged standing or walking a lot.

But it can also occur in serious diseases like those of heart, liver and kidney.

Other causes include-

  • hypertension
  • varicose veins
  • allergic reaction
  • Medications such as diuretics

I would suggest you to go for a complete examination and tests to rule out these causes as well as follow these to reduce the swelling.

  • legs should be elevated while sleeping or other wise too
  • Make use of support stockings
  • Exercise regularly
  • cutdown on salt intake if its been more than average
  • Avoid the use of laxatives if these are used regularly.Ask your doctor for alternatives.Drinking plenty of water and high fibre diet helps.

Hope this has been useful.
